Our NGO

Through hard work and determination, the MPRB succeeded in 2011 to build a community service centre in the heart of the residential area of Cité Roche Bois on leased government land. This centre now allows us to host all of our community action programs and activities for local children, youngsters and families. The centre also hosts, upon request, activities of other organizations in the area depending on needs and availability.
In order to ensure the proper running of our activities, the center is equipped with a conference room, an IT room, a fitness corner, a kitchen and work spaces. Outdoor activities take place in a covered area in the backyard. A vegetable garden has also been set up in the center’s courtyard. This is an opportunity for the children to learn how to plant vegetables and, in the long term, become a source of finance for the MPRB. This project also aims at becoming a model of home gardening for local residents.

The Milestones

Following a peaceful march, the MPRB is created.
“Patatrak Boum”, the first project, involving 50 students from Roche Bois primary schools which aimed at stimulating their capacity for expression.
The project « Teen Hope Roche Bois » is designed for children who could not achieve their primary exams.

The MPRB was founded in July 1993, following a peaceful march by the inhabitants of Roche-Bois. They protested against the construction of a municipal garage on a space occupied by a nursery school and a playground.
This event raised awareness among the residents and led them to actively participate in improving the socio-economic and political situation in their locality. In addition, they wanted to improve the living conditions of the inhabitants of Roche-Bois and its surroundings.

The “Projet d’Accompagnement Social & Scolaire – PASS 2001” supported 176 children from the 4th grade till the end of primary school exams.

The “School of Parents“ is created to train parents to monitor their children in the framework of the PASS 2001 project.

« Ensemble Construisons Ton Avenir » is designed for 11 pre-primary schools in Roche Bois to better prepare children for their entry into primary school.

Since 1993, the MPRB, with the financial support of local and international organisations, has successfully implemented several projects* to improve the educational level of children in the region. Furthermore, it has set up programs to empower families and help them break out of the poverty cycle:

-Educational support for children at primary level
-Parenting programs
-Literacy classes for adults
-Educational sessions on human rights
-Family support projects

“Waste Disposal Scheme Project” which seeks to promote the recycling of plastic waste.
Club de l’Espoir, a mentoring project for nearly 60 homeless children.
A survey is conducted on the economic situation of families who benefit from the MPRB’s educational assistance programs.
Zenes Lalimier, an educational and social program for 25 children aged 12 to 16.

In 1999, the MPRB made its regional and international mark by hosting the national secretariat of the Southern Africa Human Rights NGO Network (SAHRINGON)*, a network of human rights organisations in the Southern African region, until 2004.

From a traditional neighbourhood initiative, the MPRB has evolved over the past twenty years into a dynamic community organization serving the children and families of Roche Bois as well as the surrounding areas.
Consequently, programs that were initially autonomous, have been integrated into a holistic approach for more coherence and efficiency in their realization.

“School Support Programme” a project for 100 children aged 11 to 18 coming from vulnerable families. Its aim was to develop children’s capacity to learn and express their knowledge and skills.
Launch of the Parents’ Academy to respond more effectively to the needs of parents, assisting them to better supervise their children.
“Social Support Program“, project that involved 70 primary school students, 25 women in vulnerable circumstances and 30 out-of-school youngsters.
“Integrated Education Support Programme for a Better Future”, a project to support children at various stages of their schooling as well as their parents.
